Blog vs Wiki

Compare and contrast blogs and wikis. Comment on the importance of convergence in today's networked world. How can blogs be used for collaboration? Can you think of a new use for a wiki that has not been done yet? Blogs and wikis are both tools for people to create content that they are interested in and post it online. Major differences between the two are the people who create content on them and the content itself. Usually blogs are managed by an individual or a small group of people. The posts on blogs can be opinionated depending on the person who created the blog and the topic of the blog. Because of that, "blogs are poised to be the next generation opinion editorial page" (Gill). Social Media: An Addiction to Attention

My term paper topic is about the mental effects that social media has on its users. Almost everyone nowadays has a social media presence and these users are unwittingly subjecting themselves to psychological and emotional influence. These influences can be positive or negative. They are positive in that social media can give users a sense of community and appreciation that the users might or might not recieve elsewhere. Sometimes social media can help motivate people to become better versions of themselves. However, when users become dependent on social media to invoke happiness in themselves, that is when the user becomes addicted. Addiction can change a person's mental state and can be detrimental to the person. That coupled with toxicity on social media can drive users to an undesirable mental state. In my paper I will go more in depth about these effects that social media has on the mental well-being of its user.
