Creativity and New Media

Image
Minecraft is a platform/game that I foster my creativity. It is a sand-box like game that allows players to create anything they like with the blocks provided. You get to work with other players to build structures and the game allows players to communicate with each other. Maplestory is a MMORPG that takes palace in an virtual world where players can freely travel around the world and interact with each other or NPCs. I would say Maplestory is a form a new media that fosters creativity because it allows you to alter the appearance and abilities of your character. There are many different ways to to be creative within the game. You could also establish relationships with other players. Collaboration plays a big part within the game. In order to defeat difficult bosses, players would have to gather a group of people and work together with them. There is also an community within the game guilds allow players to feel the sense of belonging while also allowing players to make friends o...

HW Creativity

Discuss how new media fosters creativity. New media is  an outlet for people to express themselves and their creativity. It allows people to post and share their creations on the web. New media fosters creativity by bringing together an audience and community of people who enjoy the same things. An example of new media fostering creativity is shown in the article, Disney Tolerates a Rap Parody of Its Critters. But Why? . The article talks about people creating posts called mash-ups. These mash-ups are made to be humorous and creative to attract an audience. With companies like Nickelodeon, who allow people to create these video mash-ups, lets people be creative with Nickelodeon characters all they want while having them market their characters. New media allows people to post whatever they want. It can also act as a form of inspiration which motivates people to become more creative in creating their own content.  Works Cited Barnes, Brooks "Disney Tolerates a Rap Parody o...

Modeling Reality with Virtual Worlds

What are different ways these virtual worlds can be used? What are the pros and cons? Be specific. How do virtual worlds foster creativity? What do you think the future of virtual worlds will look like? Virtual worlds are worlds that are created with the use of technology. Some ways that virtual worlds can be incorporated into our lives are through education and business. Teachers can use virtual worlds to allow students to experience places and people they might not otherwise encounter and students can use it an a opportunity to learn as long as there are clear objectives (Earle). An example of using virtual worlds in the business world would be companies using IBM's Sametime 3D, Second Life, and Google Wave. All those programs allows people to have virtual meetings in a virtual world. The pros of utilizing virtual worlds is that it allows people to experience things that they usually cannot. Another pro is that virtual worlds can foster creativity. People can create their own...

Blog: About Twitter

How does a Twitter discussion compare to a BlackBoard Discussion? Twitter is a social networking site that allows people to share their thoughts through tweets that are restricted to 280 characters. Twitter discussions usually start with a tweet about anything. Then other users can interact with them by replying, retweeting, and or liking a tweet. And the discussion can go back and forth and many other users can also join in on the discussion. It can be used by anyone and is open to the public. In my opinion, a Twitter discussion and very different from a BlackBoard discussion. BlackBoard is limited to students who are enrolled in a course that utilizes BlackBoard. It allows professors to share documents and announcements to their students quickly and efficiently. Blackboard also has a discussion board for each other the courses. Usually students posts only for academic purposes. Some examples for starting a discussion would be that they need help with something regarding the class...

Blog: Social Networking Sites

Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn are all social networking sites that are unique in their own ways. Facebook gives people the opportunity to stay in touch and reconnect with friends and family. It allows people to post statuses, post pictures, comment on other people's posts, privately message friends, and be used as a marketing tool. I think Facebook is very easy to use and anyone of any age is capable of learning how to use it. Out of the four social networking sites, I use Facebook the most. I like being updated on what my friends are doing and using Facebook Messenger makes it easy for me to talk to friends everyday. Twitter is a social networking site that I am new to. Taking this course gave me the chance to see how it is really like. Twitter allows people to interact with each other using tweets and retweets. Unlike Facebook posts, these tweets can only be up to 280 characters long. Users can comment, retweet, or like a tweet. I think this site is interesting a...
