Blog: Social Networking Sites

Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn are all social networking sites that are unique in their own ways.

Facebook gives people the opportunity to stay in touch and reconnect with friends and family. It allows people to post statuses, post pictures, comment on other people's posts, privately message friends, and be used as a marketing tool. I think Facebook is very easy to use and anyone of any age is capable of learning how to use it. Out of the four social networking sites, I use Facebook the most. I like being updated on what my friends are doing and using Facebook Messenger makes it easy for me to talk to friends everyday.

Twitter is a social networking site that I am new to. Taking this course gave me the chance to see how it is really like. Twitter allows people to interact with each other using tweets and retweets. Unlike Facebook posts, these tweets can only be up to 280 characters long. Users can comment, retweet, or like a tweet. I think this site is interesting and that I need more experience with it.

Instagram is my second most used social networking site. It mainly focuses on sharing photos and videos. It allows people to show their creative side and gain a following. On Instagram you also get to follow people or things that you are interested in, which lets the app show you related content that you might enjoy. You can comment and like anyone's posts. I personally like using Instagram because it gives me an opportunity to take a break and relax. Although I do post on Instagram, I usually use it to look and watch things that picks up my mood.

LinkedIn is a great social networking platform to use if you are searching for a job or internship. Since it mainly focuses on job search, it allows you to connect with recruiters and professionals who can help you with that. You can also use your profile as an online resume, which can potentially get you a job opportunity. Users can share articles and post statuses and other users can comment and react to it.

Blog: Advice

You are hired by Baruch College to use  new media  to improve the College. What are some suggestions you would make using new media? A suggestion that I would make to improve Baruch through the use of new media is to implement it in classes. Similar to this New Media course, it is enjoyable to be able to manage our own blogs, use different new media technologies, and comment on each other work. I feel like if this were to be implemented in other classes, it would be easier for students to communicate and provide feedback to each other.  Another suggestion is for the Baruch community to use a platform that everyone can use to ask questions and get answers, something like a school-wide forum. Having an official forum will give students to ask and receive answers about the school quickly rather than having trouble finding someone to ask in person.  The last suggestion I would make is for Baruch to have a live chat for urgent problems. Wiki So Far

For the Wiki, I am planning on contributing to What is an MMORPG? by adding a game called Onmyoji to Popular MMORPGs. It is described as a MMORPG based in a world of inspired by Japanese mythology. I will be going over the plot, characters, game play, and many other things that you can do within the game. I am also planning to add to the MapleStory section of the same Wiki page. To do so, I would have to do more research on both games to make sure that they are updated with the current information.
